Valley of Sra. do Arquiteto

This is a hidden valley, at the entrance to Mafra. To get there, we have to follow the water line of the stream, which takes us to an isolated and surprising church that was most probably built in the 17th century.

The winding access is compensated by the natural beauty and the silence of this magical place. The true origin of the Chapel of N.ª Senhora do Arquiteto (Our Lady of Architects) is unknown but, according to legend, it is the fruit of the promise made by a fisherman who, finding himself out at sea on the day of a storm, had promised this to Our Lady of Succour.

At its interior, images of saints from the School of Sculpture of Mafra can be seen.
