Since 1987, this place has been home to, in 17 hectares of a wooded valley, all the wolves that cannot live in the wild. In addition to providing them with the best of care, the CRLI enables the performance of scientific studies, above all in the area of social behaviour, with the main objective of informing the public about the wolf’s true nature.
A menacing figure in many children’s stories, the wolf is actually an extraordinary and vulnerable animal that can, in this sanctuary, be symbolically adopted by individuals or companies.
At the start of the 20th century, canis lupus signatus occupied practically the entire Iberian Peninsula. Today, it falls upon us (who are largely responsible for its near extinction) to fight so that this species resumes occupying its space and thrives in its natural habitat.
The Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre accepts wolves from Portugal and all of Europe.
